- Description: The moving deck is a clever idea. Its fixed trimming height was the part I wanted owners to understand.

The idea behind UltraTrim 2.0 is fantastic. The cutting deck lowers and shifts to the side, helping the mower reach grass that would otherwise be left along the edge.

That’s exactly the sort of feature I want from a robot mower. The frustration I wrote about in July 2026 was the cutting height: UltraTrim 2.0 trimmed at a fixed 1.2 inches, or 3 centimeters, without an adjustment for that edge-cutting mode.

If you maintain your lawn higher than that, the difference matters.

## A Cleaner Edge Should Still Suit the Grass

Getting closer to the boundary is useful, but cutting the edge much shorter than the rest of the lawn can leave it looking scalped or stressed.

For context, University of Minnesota Extension recommends a height of at least 3 inches for a typical residential Midwest lawn. That guidance applies to its regional lawn conditions, rather than every grass type, but it shows why a 1.2-inch trim can be a poor match for owners maintaining a taller lawn. [Read the extension guidance](https://extension.umn.edu/garden-and-home/yard-and-garden/lawns-and-landscapes-in-minnesota/mowing-practices-for-healthy-lawns?ref=vacubots.com).

My concern wasn’t that every lawn should be cut to the same height. It was that owners needed a choice to match the edge cut to the grass they actually grow.

## What MOVA Support Said About the Limitation

MOVA Support US replied to the original thread on July 18, 2026\. The account explained that the cutting disc and its guard move vertically together, and that extending the deck outward requires a low guard position to meet blade-access safety requirements.

According to that reply, the design didn’t leave room to adjust the trimming height while maintaining those protections. Support said it would pass the feedback to the development team. [See the support reply in the original thread](https://us.forum.mova-tech.com/forum.php?mod=viewthread&tid=1701&ref=vacubots.com).

That helps explain the trade-off. It doesn’t make the short trim a better fit for a lawn that needs to stay taller.

## My Recommendation From That Test Period

My recommendation was to leave UltraTrim 2.0 off unless your lawn was intentionally maintained at a height suitable for that setting.

Check the mowing guidance for your grass and the instructions for your particular mower. If you enable the feature, watch the first edge run and inspect the result before letting it cover the whole boundary.

## A Good Idea With Room to Improve

I still think UltraTrim 2.0 has plenty of potential. Reaching more of the edge is a useful goal, and I’d love to see owners get more flexibility in how that edge is cut.

For me, that’s fair feedback from someone who likes the product: Keep the clever idea, but give us a result that works with more lawns.
