# How to Connect Your Narwal Robot Vacuum to Alexa

Connecting your Narwal robot vacuum to Alexa lets you start cleaning, pause a task or send the robot back to its base by voice. Compatible models also support room-cleaning requests, suction changes and commands to help you find the robot.

Start by connecting the vacuum to the Narwal app. Narwal’s support instructions call it the Narwal Freo app.

## What Do You Need Before Starting?

Have these items ready:

- A compatible robot that is online in the Narwal app.
- Access to the Narwal account that owns the robot.
- The Amazon Alexa app and the Amazon account you use for Alexa.
- An Alexa-enabled device, such as an Echo speaker or Echo Show, for voice commands.

Install available updates for both apps and the robot’s firmware. Then start and pause a cleanup in the Narwal app to confirm that the vacuum responds.

Check compatibility for your model and country if you are unsure whether Alexa is supported.

## How Do You Connect Your Narwal to Alexa?

1. Open the Narwal app and select your robot.
2. Open **Settings**, then **Third Party Control**.
3. Select **Amazon Alexa**.
4. Sign in with the Amazon account you use for Alexa.
5. Approve the connection and finish the prompts.

Narwal documents this route in its [U.S. support guide to Alexa voice control](https://support.narwal.com/hc/en-us/articles/37982705700365-Voice-Command-with-Amazon-Alexa?ref=vacubots.com). Follow the current linking prompts if the menu labels differ.

## Which Alexa Commands Can You Use?

Begin each instruction with **“Alexa, ask my robot to …”** and finish with a phrase from the tables below. For example, say, “Alexa, ask my robot to clean.”

These tables cover every command category in Narwal’s Alexa guide. Availability can vary by model and region.

### Cleaning and Docking Commands

| What You Want to Do | Finish the Command With |
| ------------------------ | ----------------------------- |
| Start cleaning | “Clean.” |
| Pause cleaning | “Pause.” |
| Resume cleaning | “Resume cleaning.” |
| End cleaning | “Stop.” |
| Send the robot to charge | “Recharge.” |
| Return to the dock | “Return to the base station.” |
| Clean a mapped room | “Clean the kitchen.” |

For room cleaning, replace “kitchen” with the room’s name in your Narwal map.

Narwal also documents “start cleaning,” “vacuum” and “start vacuuming” as start commands; “pause cleaning” as an alternative to “pause”; and “stop cleaning” or “stop vacuuming” to end a task.

### Suction Commands

| Suction Setting | Finish the Command With |
| --------------- | -------------------------------- |
| Quiet | “Change to quiet mode.” |
| Normal | “Change to normal mode.” |
| Strong | “Change to strong mode.” |
| Super powerful | “Change to super powerful mode.” |

Request only settings your robot supports.

### Commands to Find the Robot

| What You Want to Try | Finish the Command With |
| ------------------------ | -------------------------- |
| Ask where the robot is | “Say where it is.” |
| Have the robot respond | “Say hi.” |
| Request a locating sound | “Play sound to locate it.” |

### How Do You Name a Particular Robot?

Set or check the robot’s nickname in the Narwal app’s settings. Narwal uses “Snowball” in its examples:

- “Alexa, ask my robot to clean with Snowball.”
- “Alexa, ask my robot to pause with Snowball.”
- “Alexa, ask my robot to resume cleaning with Snowball.”
- “Alexa, ask my robot to stop with Snowball.”
- “Alexa, ask my robot to recharge with Snowball.”

Replace “Snowball” with your robot’s nickname. Keep “my robot” in the command; Narwal’s documented wording uses that phrase before the action.

## How Can You Tell Whether Linking Worked?

Say, “Alexa, ask my robot to clean.” Watch the vacuum or check its status in the Narwal app. Then test pausing and returning to the base station.

Alexa’s spoken confirmation is useful, but check that the robot performs the action. Test each command before using it in a routine.

If the vacuum appears under **Devices** in Alexa, you can also try any available controls. Use the documented voice commands as the main test of the connection.

## Does Assigning an Alexa Room Enable Room Cleaning?

No. Assigning the vacuum to an Alexa room organizes the smart-home device. It does not create a cleaning boundary.

Set up mapped rooms and their names in the Narwal app. Then test a targeted request, such as “Alexa, ask my robot to clean the kitchen,” if your model supports it.

If the request starts a whole-home cleanup instead, stop the robot and check the room name and supported commands before trying again.

## What If Alexa Cannot Find or Control the Vacuum?

Try the Narwal app first. If the vacuum does not respond there, restore its connection before troubleshooting Alexa.

If it works in the Narwal app:

1. Confirm that you linked the Amazon account used by your Alexa device.
2. Check the connection under **Settings**, **Third Party Control** and **Amazon Alexa**.
3. Try a basic command using the full phrase “Alexa, ask my robot to.”
4. If linking remains unsuccessful, follow the prompts to disconnect and reconnect Alexa.

For devices that use an Alexa skill, Amazon recommends reactivating the skill when the manufacturer’s app works but Alexa does not. Its [smart-home connection troubleshooting guide](https://digprjsurvey.amazon.com/csad/help/node/G4BFSQTR4A8HZZFF?ref=vacubots.com) explains that process.

Contact Narwal support if the integration is unavailable or the same error returns. Provide your model name, the command you tried and Alexa’s exact response. Use a factory reset only when Narwal’s troubleshooting instructions call for it.
