The Max 875 Combo is available now through iRobot's U.S. website, with broader North American retail availability planned later in September. iRobot's online store currently lists orders as shipping in approximately two weeks. It arrives alongside the $899 Roomba Plus 678 Combo, but the Max 875 is the more significant of the two, introducing several technologies that move iRobot closer to the hardware now common on premium robot vacuums from Roborock, Dreame, Ecovacs, Narwal and others. Your browser does not support the video tag. ▶ ## Heated Roller Mopping Arrives on Roomba The Max 875 also marks a major change in iRobot's approach to mopping. iRobot says its PowerSpin Max roller mop spins at 300 rpm and applies up to 18 newtons of downward pressure. Heated water is supplied to the roller during cleaning, while an ultrasonic ThermaMist system sprays a heated mist ahead of the mop to help loosen dried spills. iRobot describes it as a two-stage approach to stain removal. The roller can also extend up to 1.77 inches toward walls and baseboards, while the side brush expands outward to improve corner coverage. iRobot says the Max 875 delivers 3.75 times deeper scrubbing than the Roomba Max 775 and twice the stain removal when ThermaMist is used compared with mopping without the heated-mist system. ## A Different Approach to Carpet Cleaning iRobot says the Max 875 produces up to 35,000 Pa of suction and 20 liters per second of airflow. A new SealForce system lowers a skirt around the cleaning area when the robot moves onto carpet, creating a tighter seal between the robot and floor. The idea is to reduce air escaping around the cleaning head and concentrate more airflow through the carpet fibers. That is potentially more interesting than the raw suction number itself. Pascal ratings have become increasingly difficult to compare between manufacturers because they do not directly measure how much debris a robot will actually remove from carpet. iRobot says SealForce provides three times deeper carpet cleaning, although that figure compares the Max 875 with SealForce enabled against cleaning without the SealForce system rather than against a competing robot vacuum. The robot also uses a hair-cutting main brush and an anti-tangle side brush. ## A Shield Protects Carpet from the Roller The Max 875's DriLift system raises the mop when carpet is detected but also lowers a physical shield beneath the roller. That should provide additional separation between the wet roller and carpet, potentially reducing the chance of moisture reaching rugs as the robot crosses them. The robot can vacuum only, mop only, vacuum and mop simultaneously, or vacuum first and mop afterward. ## Updated Navigation and Obstacle Avoidance Navigation is handled by iRobot's ClearView Pro dual-line lidar system combined with PrecisionVision AI obstacle avoidance. iRobot says the vision system can recognize more than 300 household objects. The Max 875 can store maps for up to three floors and is listed at 3.93 inches tall, making it relatively slim despite using lidar-based navigation. Threshold climbing is rated at up to 1.38 inches, which is below the multi-stage climbing systems appearing on some of the latest flagship robots. The robot has a 5,000 mAh battery. ## AutoWash Dock Handles Most Routine Cleaning The accompanying AutoWash Dock empties the dustbin, refills the robot with clean water and cleaning solution, removes dirty mop water and cleans the roller. Mop washing reaches 176 F, followed by heated-air drying at up to 131 F. ## Roomba Plus 678 also Joins the Lineup The value-focused Roomba Plus 678 Combo uses many of the same ideas but drops several of the Max model's higher-end specifications. It produces 30,000 Pa of suction and 18 liters per second of airflow while retaining the SealForce feature for carpets. Its roller mop applies 15 newtons of pressure and uses the same spray system to loosen dried stains. The 678 also has a conventional 0.39-inch mop lift rather than the Max 875's DriLift roller-and-shield system. ## Pricing and Availability The Roomba Max 875 Combo with AutoWash Dock is priced at $1,199, while the Roomba Plus 678 Combo is $899.
