Our editor's background is in economics, business and communications, but his interest in product testing started much earlier.

As a child, he often tagged along with his grandmother while she cleaned businesses on the weekends. She used an old Rainbow bagless canister vacuum, which relied on a water-filled basin rather than a traditional vacuum bag.

He would help with the vacuuming and make the familiar trip to dump out the basin of dirty, debris-filled water. Those weekends were his first real introduction to the world of vacuums.

At 13, he was invited into private testing programs run by major tech companies, flagging bugs and suggesting usability fixes years before "beta testing" was a buzzword.

That early experience helped shape how VacuBots looks at products today, with usability, maintenance and long-term reliability often carrying as much weight as headline specifications.

His interest in both technology and vacuums continued into adulthood, and he still regularly tests major software and hardware releases for some of the biggest names in the industry.

But back to vacuums.

In 2002, while in high school, he used his Christmas money to buy the original iRobot Roomba robot vacuum. The iRobot Scooba floor-washing robot followed a few years later, along with several additional bots as iRobot grew.

In 2023, he bought the Roborock S8 Pro Ultra, and it changed his world. Lidar navigation, active wet mopping and a self-emptying dock all in one machine? He was hooked.

More models followed, including the Roborock S8 MaxV Ultra, Narwal Freo Z Ultra, Eufy S1 Pro and plenty of others as the category rapidly evolved.

Since then, he's owned more robot vacuums than most people would probably consider healthy. (This is a joke.)

By 2026, what started as a robot vacuum hobby — cough, obsession — had grown into VacuBots.
