How to Keep Your Dyson Mop and Dock From Smelling

Find the source of an odor and clean the parts that retain wastewater or residue.

An automatic mop wash moves dirt off the floor, but that dirt still has to leave the machine. If an odor develops, inspect the collected waste and wet-cleaning parts before running repeated wash cycles.

These instructions focus on Dyson’s current Spot+Scrub Ai wet-and-dry robot. Older 360-series robots have different hardware and do not share its mopping dock.

What Should You Check First?

Keep the bagless dry-debris bin separate from the dirty-water tank in your maintenance routine. A wet-roller smell calls for a check of the wet system, not just emptying the cyclonic bin.

Try to identify whether the smell comes from the mop, dirty-water tank, washing area or dry-debris storage. That makes cleaning more useful than treating every part the same way.

How Do You Clean the Dirty-Water Tank?

If the dock has a removable dirty-water tank, empty it and rinse it using the method in the manual. Pay attention to the lid and accessible residue around its seal.

Secure the lid and dry the outside before reinstalling it. As a housekeeping habit, check dirty water after mopping rather than waiting for a full-tank alert.

For a plumbed-in station, use its drainage-maintenance instructions instead.

What About the Mop and Washing Area?

Remove and clean the mop only as the model’s guide allows. A roller, moving mop track and pair of spinning pads have different attachment systems.

Before cleaning the station, disconnect power and let hot parts cool. Remove debris from approved removable trays, filters or washboards; do not rinse the assembled dock.

Should You Let Drying Finish?

If the station provides drying, check that it is enabled and allow the cycle to finish before another task. Where the app offers a longer cycle, try it if the mop remains damp in humid conditions.

A mop that stays wet despite a completed drying cycle needs a closer check.

Can Cleaning Solution Fix the Smell?

Use only solution approved for your appliance, in the specified compartment and concentration. Do not add fragrance, bleach or household disinfectant to a water tank as an improvised treatment.

If odor returns quickly, inspect the affected component again and follow the manufacturer’s troubleshooting guidance rather than masking it.
