Dyson Adds Three New Robot Vacuums to Lineup, Led by R3 Nurovi Spot+Scrub UV

Dyson is expanding its robot vacuum lineup with the new Nurovi series, including the R3 Spot+Scrub UV with ultraviolet stain detection, upgraded object recognition and a full-width roller mop.

Dyson launched three new robot vacuums Sept. 3 at its event in Berlin, giving the company separate vacuum-only, spinning-mop and roller-mop models.

The lineup includes the R1 Nurovi Dry, R2 Nurovi Wash+Dry and flagship R3 Nurovi Spot+Scrub UV.

R3 Nurovi Spot+Scrub UV Adds Heated Roller Mopping

The R3 Nurovi Spot+Scrub UV is an upgraded version of Dyson's original Spot+Scrub Ai.

It retains the full-width microfiber roller mop, 12-point water system, extending edge-cleaning roller and camera-based stain detection, but adds ultraviolet light to the detection system.

Dyson says the combination of UV, green illumination and cameras can identify nearly 200 types of substances and objects and trigger another cleaning pass if a stain remains.

Water is heated to as high as 158 F while mopping, and the roller can extend 1.6 inches beyond the side of the robot for edge cleaning.

Suction increases from 18,000 Pa on the original Spot+Scrub Ai to 30,000 Pa on the R3. Dyson says that is a 65% increase in suction pressure, although the motor is not Dyson-designed.

The robot uses a cyclonic, bagless dock that empties the dust bin and cleans the roller mop.

R2 Nurovi Wash+Dry Uses Triangular Mop Pads

The R2 Nurovi Wash+Dry uses two Reuleaux triangle-shaped spinning mop pads instead of circular pads or a roller.

The rounded triangular design, reminiscent of Narwal’s Freo mop pads, is intended to reach farther into square corners while maintaining a consistent cleaning width.

The dock heats water to as high as 167 F for washing the pads.

For vacuuming, the R2 uses Dyson's Twin-capture system, which mechanically directs larger debris into the robot while the vacuum motor handles finer dust.

A piezo sensor measures dust levels and detects changes in floor type, allowing the robot to automatically adjust suction.

R1 Nurovi Dry Focuses on Vacuuming

The R1 Nurovi Dry is the vacuum-only model, with 21,000 Pa of suction and the same Twin-capture cleaning system used by the R2.

An extending side sweeper cleans along walls and in corners, while an anti-tangle brush bar is designed to reduce hair buildup.

Navigation is handled by lidar, and the robot stands 3.8 inches tall to reach under furniture.

The self-emptying dock can store debris for up to 90 days, according to Dyson. Mapping, no-go zones, cleaning settings and do-not-disturb controls are available through the MyDyson app.

Pricing and Availability

The R1 Nurovi Dry is priced at $549.99 and has already appeared on retailer websites like Best Buy.

The $699 R2 Nurovi Wash+Dry and $1,199 R3 Nurovi Spot+Scrub UV both launch Sept. 15. The R2 will be exclusive to Costco, while the R3 will be available through a broader range of U.S. retailers.
